Do you have an Umbrella?

Before I left work yesterday, it started raining heavily. I didn't have an umbrella so I went to the store room and I found one. I was truly glad. Not only because I found an umbrella but because the umbrella was blue in colour and it matched my blue skirt😀😊😊 (just kidding, but true).  I was really glad I got an umbrella because I couldn't afford ruining my hair and clothes.

On my way home, I noticed the difference in the way people with umbrella walked under the rain versus people without an umbrella. People without umbrella were either walking too fast or running while people with umbrella walked a bit slower.
With an umbrella, there is really no rush, there's protection from the rain, you can see clearly the paths you decide to thread, you can also detect erosion and decide to avoid sinking sand, slippery ground or fall among others. Without umbrella, you'd run or jog to get to your destination or look for a place to hide but you'd definitely get wet in the process.

I got to a point where I had to wait for bus but everyone had run to get shelter. The only persons waiting for bus were those with an umbrella. We stood under the rain with so much confidence that we couldn't really get wet all because of the fact that we had an umbrella. We got bus and continued our journey in good time while those without umbrella were greatly at a disadvantage.

God as our umbrella

So,  my question today is "Do you have an Umbrella? " Basically, an umbrella provides protection. Literally or according to the dictionary,  it  is a cloth covered frame covering used for protection against rain or sun. (Although, some people prefer raincoat).
Umbrella is a shade that protects against the “heat” and "rain" of sufferings, problems, challenges, and harm. It protects against the rain, the storm, the sinking sand, the slippery ground, it enhances clarity, among others.

This world is full of many evils, problem, challenges and vices. And as such, we all need protection. Lemme rephrase the question now,  "Do you have protection?" If you do, who or what is your protection?

I have seen people use terrible and spoilt umbrella during the rain. Such persons still get wet like those without umbrella. I have seen many ladies use nylon to cover their hair during the rain. Such would still get wet but their hair protected.
This is just the way people are these days. A lot of people now seek diabolical means of protection. Some even rely on thugs, body guards, etc for protection. I liken such people to those using a faulty or spoilt umbrella. I liken such to those covering their hair with nylon during the rain.
The only sure, best, reliable and true protection can be gotten in God. He is the only one that can truly protect us all.
The value of an umbrella cannot be overemphasised. It shields you from the rain and when you step outside of it, you become wet. God is our shield and protection. Stepping outside of God definitely means getting wet. Don't step out of God's umbrella (protection). When things are not going right in your life, pause and check if you are still under God's umbrella.

Rain would definitely come. Sun would surely come. Tests, temptations, trials, problems and challenges would come our way but the umbrella makes the difference. Isaiah 43:2 says God would carry you through the storm. This means the storm would surely come but with God, you are fine even in the storm. So, saty in God. Abide under His shadow just as Psalm 91 admonishes us. Do not step out of His Umbrella.
Remember how God gave a cloud protection to the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness? He is ready to give us same in the wilderness of this world too. All we need do is abide in Him and obey. Live under His umbrella.

There are times that we forget our umbrella at home and then unexpected the rain comes upon us. In the same vein, do not forget God. Don't forget your umbrella. Storms of life can come at anytime so it is good to be prepared at all times. Remember the story of the 10 virgin? only five were prepared. The other five were not.
I know a number of people that carry umbrella along with them whenever they go out. In the same vein, we should always abide in God at all times. A friend of mine said, "The bigger the umbrella, the better" That is the more of His presence you carry, the better. Irrespective of the level you might have attained in Christ, there is more. Want more and you'd get more cause there is more.
Psalm 127:1b says "unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman watches in vain". Don't watch in vain. Let God watch over you. Rely on Him for protection.
