Shalewa, Don't be Distracted

Few weeks ago, a friend of mine, Rukky Okoro wanted to celebrate her birthday so we (Fasogbon Bukola and I) decided to go to the market with her to get some ingredients for cooking so as so make the celebration plum.
Before we left the house, I decided to go along with some money to buy attachment to complete a braided wig that I was making. When we got to the market, I started seeing so many things I was in need of and I started thinking of spending the money with me on them. When I saw snacks, I felt like buying, when I saw phone pouch I felt like changing the one I was using. When I saw earpiece, I immediately remembered that my earpiece just spoilt and I needed another. In fact, it got to an extent that I saw pretty bags and couldn't withstand not going to the bag stands. I almost used the money meant for attachment to get something else.
It was that bad that Rukky Okoro had to start singing " Shalewa, Don't be distracted" in my ears. When I didn't heed, she kept reiterating "Be focused".

I could have bought one of the stuffs that caught my attention but that was not what the money I was with was for.
I needed to consciously call myself to order, I needed to tell myself again and again to prioritize. I needed not to stay distracted. I needed to stay focused on the original plan or purpose of the money. So I had to think about the braided wig I was to complete alone, I had to think about the end product of the attachment and it really helped me to stay focused.
I also feel that's what we need to do as Christians. So that we wont be so distracted and miss the original purpose of our lives and our gifts. We need to constantly think about Christ to stay focused. Christ saw beyond to the extent that He endured the sufferings, distractions, temptations, for the joy set before Him. We need to see the joy set before us. This world we live in is full of so many distractions ranging from ourselves, money, fashion, hobbies, relationships, cellphones, television, routine or job, media and so on.
The truth is that distractions would always come, it is left to us to stay focused on Him and not let the noise of this world distract us.
Sometimes we get so caught up with social media that we lose track of time and just when we are about to sleep, we do a quick 20 seconds prayer or even forget to pray totally. When we permit other things into our lives, we tend to drift away from God. Let's not be distracted. Let's stay focused. Let's constantly look unto the author and finisher of our faith.

Peter was already walking in the water but he started to sink the instant he was distracted. It is when we decide to be serious with God that the distractions would increase. Let's not give in.
The devil constantly seek to distract us. However, submit to God, resist the devil and he surely will flee from you. Don't be distracted, don't let the noise of the world keep you from hearing God. Some of us are even distracted by the worries and cares of the world forgetting that we are supposed to worry for nothing. Some of us are so choked up that we have allowed different church projects to distract us from spending time with the Father.
Whatever form of distraction may come your way, don't give in to it. Don't even allow others to distract you.
Just like how I went to market and later went back home, we need to constantly remind ourselves that we are only sojourners on earth and would return home. We are just like someone that went to market and still has to return home. We should not allow distraction make us miss our original purpose.
Let's not allow distractions to take our focus away from God
Let us make special effort this week not to be distracted
Happy Sunday
Do have a 'focus on Him' week
May God keep us focused on Him
