Why Thank God for What He Didn't Do?

Femi shared a testimony in church, of cheating in an examination hall. So, was he thanking God for not getting caught while cheating?

Ade was promoted at work based on a shady deal and he came to church to appreciate God for his promotion.

Samuel stole money and he came to church to testify that God provided for him.

Sandra sold her body to get a job and testify that God did it.

I am confused. I've got questions and I need answers. What is a testimony and how should it be shared?
I have issues with some of the testimonies I hear and I really need answers. Please, feel free to drop your opinion in the comment section.

A lot of times, we thank God publicly for the things we claim He did, but in reality, He didn't do those things.

Don't get me wrong. I understand the fact that there is nothing impossible for God to do but the question is that did God really do what you are thanking Him for?

For instance, you excelled in an examination and you share a testimony of how God helped you to pass the exam when in reality you cheated to pass the exam. Did God help you to cheat?

There are people that thank God for money and provision when in reality they stole the money. Did God help you to steal?

Some even thank God for protection and victory against the enemy but the truth is that they had protective charms from the devil.

If you have seen the Mount Zion Movie Shackles, you'd remember the lady in part one that people were thanking God on her behalf,  blessing God for giving her a child after so many years of waiting when in reality she got the child from a dark world.

We have stories to tell about how our lives changed, that we select and edit it to desired details, cut the rest, and paint a narrative that we want others to hear.

Why do we praise God for a success or victory that has no Jesus culture or value in it?

The thing is, you can deceive others, you can deceive yourself but God cannot be mocked.
Your testimony should be the story of your encounter with God. It should point others to God.

God loves to beautify our lives. So if you are looking up to God for something, keep your focus on Him.
He definitely wants to give you success, victory, among other glorious things but make sure HE is really in the picture. Make Him top priority in your life and get Him involved in every area of your life. He truly cares.
Don't magnify flesh and attribute it to God. Stay true to Him and He would indeed fill your life with testimonies.
