Have You Ever?
Have you ever felt like you are the only nice person out there?
Have you ever felt like you are the only one following the principles of God?
Have you ever felt like you are the only one serving God?
Have you ever felt like you are the only one staying sexually pure?
Have you ever felt like you are the only one that gives?
You would be amazed at how many persons are still following the precepts of God.
A while back, I was talking with a friend and she was like she's tired of being sexually pure as it feels like she's the only one. I mentioned a few persons that she knew and others that she didn't know and I told her she wasn't alone. Plus, I reminded her that the reason she was staying pure wasn't for any persons' approval but for honoring God and once she keeps her reason for doing it (GOD) in mind, she won't be easily distracted or demoralized.
While thinking about the issue on my own, I realized that must have been how Elijah felt. Remember 1Kings 19? Elijah was in despair , he was depressed and even wanted to die. He probably felt hopeless, alone and afraid.
Elijah complained that he had been zealous for God but the people still rejected God, tore down altars and put prophets to death and now, he is the only one left.
I'm sure he felt frustrated, tired, and discouraged just like some of us (present day Christians) do. We think we are the only one standing for God so we feel like giving up. We feel like there's no hope, that the entire world has sunk into sin, idolatry and fornication. So we want to give up too.
To Elijah's surprise, God told him that He had reserved seven thousand persons who hadn't bowed to Baal. Like not even a hundred, but 7k persons.
So, for you too, you are not alone. You think you are the only one serving God wholeheartedly, you would be amazed at how much more persons that are. You think you are the only one that is god-fearing? You would be amazed at how many god-fearing folks we still have. You think you are the only one saying no to premarital sex? You would be amazed at how many sexual purity folks and ambassadors are out there.
So, don't be discouraged, don't be tired. Keep on and keep at it. Remember that Elijah's outbursts brought about his replacement. It was after he said that he was the only one that God told him to anoint Elisha as prophet in his place.
May we not be replaced in Jesus' name.
Find comfort in God. Find strength to continue in Him. I love how the Bible puts it in 1sam. 30:6 it says "David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God". David was distressed, he was afraid but still, he found strength in God. Just like David, we should also find strength in God. When you feel discouraged, demoralized, alone or afraid, find strength in God.
You are never alone. So when you mistakenly feel that way, reach out to friends that love the Lord. Their encouragements can go a long way. Like Elijah too, seek God. Talk to God about it.
I pray that may we always find strength when we are tired. May we always hear from God even when we feel lonely. God help us.
