I Got on the Wrong Bus
Hey guys,
Happy New Yearπππ I hope you all have missed me as much as I have.
First, I would like to thank you for the past year and for making this easy for me. I hope this year would be better than the previous year and I hope I get to hear more from you instead. Feel free to write to me and drop your comments as you deem fit.
For today, I would like to share a gist from the previous year. So, towards the end of last year (in December) I decided to travel and visit other states. I booked a bus ride to New Jersey and I was careful to pick a bus that had zero transfers. Meaning I did not want to have to change buses during the course of the journey. I just wanted one bus to drive all through the 12hours plus journey.
So, I got on the bus and started my journey. When we got to Philadephia, the driver (and probably the bus company) decided to service the bus and we had to rest at the station for about one hour. After an hour, they started checking our tickets so we can continue on the journey. Unfortunately, the system was down so they could not scan the barcode on our tickets. Instead, they just wrote down our names and told us to get on the bus.
The bus kept moving but I felt like I was not on the right bus. My heart kept pounding and I could not sleep as I would normally have. I kept checking the google map to see if the bus was moving towards my next stop but it was not. I knew I was on the wrong bus.
So, I waited till the next stop and met with the driver. He checked my ticket again and told me I was on the wrong bus. I literally felt my stomach squeeze for a minute. He told me the bus I was on was headed for Washington DC and I would have to find my way to New Jersey from there. I started wondering how I would survive. My luggage was on the right bus and I was here alone (with my phoneπ).
I went back to my seat and started wondering how and where I went wrong. First, the system was down and the driver could not confirm my ticket. Second, the driver did not probably check my destination. He probably was just concerned about noting down my name. Also, I did not mention my destination or where I was going. I just assumed the driver saw it or knew.
I just sat there almost devastated as I did not even know how I would survive. I started speaking in tongues and just committing it all to God because there was nothing I could do. A few minutes after I was done praying, the driver stopped the bus and was asking for me. He told me he has found my bus driver. He drove me there and went on his way with the other passengers. Now, I was on the right bus and reunited with my fellow travelers and of course my luggage. I felt relieved.
Thinking about it now, you would agree with me that this world that we are in is a journey on its own and sometimes (if not most times) we get lost, we take the wrong path and all. But the beautiful thing is that it does not matter how lost we get once we call on God, He is ever ready to put us back on the right track (The way that driver helped me and made sure I was on the right bus).
It's possible you do your best not to get lost like I did by booking a zero transfer bus but still get lost. It does not matter if you get lost. What matters is if God is in your journey. Do everything you can to make sure God is in your journey.
With the confusion and distractions in the world today, it's easy to lose your way and take the wrong paths but the beautiful thing is that God's grace is always there to redirect our paths to the right way. All we need do is talk to Him. He has put His Holy Spirit in us and has given us His word to lead us aright. The psalmist says that God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Ensure you stick to the word of God.
Unlike my wrong bus driver, God is intentional about us and knows where our destination should be. He does not need a ticket to tell that. He created us and literally has the manual of our life. Psalm 37 verses 23 and 24 says that God directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of our lives and even though we stumble, we would never fall for God upholds us by hand. Do you feel like you have lost your way? Are you on the right track spiritually, career-wise, academically, ministry or relationship-wise? It does not matter if you are not on the right track. All you need do is talk to God. He's gat you.
I know the first month of 2022 is already gone but I'm just here to tell you not to journey this year without God. Journey with God this year. It does not matter how lost you think you are. It does not matter how far you think you have gone. God is ever ready to bring you back to the right path. Just call on Him. Talk to Him. Involve Him in your journey. He is got you!
After getting to New Jersey, I went to New York and got lost too. I got lost taking the subways, I got lost taking the trains, I got lost at the 34th Penn station. I just kept taking the wrong trains. After a few days, I got a hang of it. I never stopped asking questions, asking people and the officials at the train stations. Google Map also became my best friend. I was always checking so that I don't get lost. In the same vein, we should also never stop talking and asking God. His word should be our best book. Holy Spirit should be our best buddy. We should always involve God so that we won't get lost.
Psalm 32:8 says "I would instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go; I will guide you with my eye" God is ever ready to instruct us. He loves to guide us and teach us. Are we ready to listen? Are we ready to be taught and guided? Yield to God this year. Talk to Him. Fellowship with Him. HE is for you.
I wish us all a year filled with instructions from God and grace to act on such instructions. Feel free to drop your comments. God bless you.
