Sleep

Image
Shalewa Babatayo Ajenipa I boarded a bus some weeks ago and everyone to my right and left (everyone on my row) was fast asleep. Before I knew it, I started feeling sleepy. I don't know if my "feeling sleeping" was because others were sleeping already. If you have any logical explanation for feeling sleeping or sleeping because others are doing so, please drop your comments in the comments section. I have also noticed a lot of times that whenever someone besides me yawns, I tend to yawn. Or whenever I yawn, someone beside me is bound to do same. I wonder if yawning is contagious. (I would really loved to be schooled about this so if you have ideas or opinion, I would love to hear from you. Comment below). So back to my initial gist, I started feeling sleepy because I saw others sleep. People also yawn when others yawn. Others even laugh when they see and hear others laugh. I have also been in a bus where a man said something funny and people at the back started l

The Rotten Food Shalewa Babatayo Mary woke up very early one morning. After observing her devotion, she rushed to the kitchen to make food before going to work. She spent hours in the kitchen preparing the sumptuous meal. Afterwards, she headed to the bathroom and then dressed up for work. Before going to work she had her breakfast and also served her sisters. She also decided to package the food in a food flask for a colleague/friend of hers at work. On getting to work, she gave the food to her colleague and it was received with so much joy and thanksgiving. At the close of work, she forgot to collect the food flask and the colleague also forgot to return it. Days passed by and the food flask wasn't returned. After a day or so, the food flask was found. Mary took it home to wash. Immediately she opened it, foul and disgusting smell filled the kitchen. The food flask had little remnant of the food Mary had made the previous day(s) and as such, there was already growt

Hunger

Image
The power of hunger (spiritual hunger) Seeing the above picture, the first thing that came to my mind was hunger probably because I like food a lot and I have had a number of 'hungry experiences' which I would be sharing. There is something about hunger that i am yet to grasp but I know hunger is very powerful. On one Thursday during my service year, I was desperately hungry. I had eaten only noodles the previous day (Wednesday) so the hunger was just too great. Our assistant LGI at the local government had her birthday that week so she decided to share biscuits to celebrate. I had never eaten that biscuit before and didn't know how it would taste, so i decided not to eat the biscuit. I just kept it in my bag (I guess the hunger wasn't that great yet). Around 5 pm I couldn't hold it any longer, I had to eat something. So I decided to eat the biscuit. And guess what? The biscuit tasted so divine. It was indeed a pleasure to my hungry body. I munched it

If Only

I boarded a bus and as I was about sitting down, I noticed that the person sitting next to me was so dirty. It was like he had just finished rolling in sand and dirt. I was so disgusted. His hands and body looked like he creamed with diesel oil or something. I loathed sitting beside him. I intended to change my seat but the other seats were occupied and I didn't wanna come down and have to wait for another bus. "another hustle and wahala" I thought. So I just sat still. Sitting there made my heart bleed. I didn't want him to stain or soil my cloth. I didn't want him to touch me or crumple my cloth. I just wanted my cloth to be perfect. My heart was crying. "Don't touch me! Don't come close! Don't let your cloth touch mine! Don't even let our shoulders touch!!" I kept shouting (in my heart). My heart was shouting and crying at the same time. Whenever he leaned forward, my heart would rejoice. But the rejoicing wouldn't last long as

Do you have an Umbrella?

Image
Before I left work yesterday, it started raining heavily. I didn't have an umbrella so I went to the store room and I found one. I was truly glad. Not only because I found an umbrella but because the umbrella was blue in colour and it matched my blue skirt😀😊😊 (just kidding, but true).  I was really glad I got an umbrella because I couldn't afford ruining my hair and clothes. On my way home, I noticed the difference in the way people with umbrella walked under the rain versus people without an umbrella. People without umbrella were either walking too fast or running while people with umbrella walked a bit slower. With an umbrella, there is really no rush, there's protection from the rain, you can see clearly the paths you decide to thread, you can also detect erosion and decide to avoid sinking sand, slippery ground or fall among others. Without umbrella, you'd run or jog to get to your destination or look for a place to hide but you'd definitely get wet in the

Drop me! Drop me!! Drop me!!!

Image
I boarded a bus from Ikeja to Onipan and like every conductor would,  the conductor kept calling out  bus stops and junctions that the passengers would like to alight and the passengers kept answering and coming down when they reached their preferred destination. A moving bus When we were almost at Anthony the conductor kept saying "Anthony" "Shey o wa?" A lady answered "o wa" so the conductor alerted the driver by tapping on the bus three times. The driver stopped and the lady and some other people got down. The driver then asked "traffic light nko?", "traffic light" but no one answered so he drove away from the service lane and moved to the express which was a faster route. The driver kept driving. All of a sudden a young man that had earpiece plugged in his ears just started shouting "Anthony! Haaaa!! o wa oh" Everyone turned back to look at him. "Stop!drop me! drop me!! drop me!!!" he kept shouting. T

Tiny

Image
Tiny On one Saturday last year, I went for choir rehearsals. On getting to church, we were so few that we had to wait for others to come. While waiting, I decided to go to the children's department, have a look and also gist with others. (cause I like gist☺) Few minutes later, we were called back into the church to start rehearsals. Then I discovered that the middle finger of my right hand was bleeding. I immediately wiped the blood and joined others for the rehearsals. However, I later discovered there was a tiny piece of broken glass in that finger. I must have placed my hands on a broken glass in the children's department (unknowingly). I begged a friend of mine  to help me get a new blade so I can try removing the tiny piece disturbing my finger. All through the rehearsals, I kept trying to remove the tiny piece of glass but I could not. So I decided to let it be. "It was just a tiny piece and it had no impact" I thought to myself. "Maybe f

My Boss

My boss whom I have known for less than 5 months has some habits. I obviously have not spent a lot of time working for his company, I have however noticed some traits about him which include that: * He doesn't take cash with him whenever he is going out. * When he drives or reaches the venue he is going,  he combs his hair well and uses perfume. So he always looks prim and proper. * Lastly, whenever he is reading, he unconsciously and silently whispers letters, words or phrases of whatever he is reading.

Don't Waste It!

Image
Mom and I My mom has this habit of not wasting things. Whenever we cook excess,  she prefers to refrigerate it than pour it away even when no one is interested in the food again. She likes buying medicine for me all the time especially when I'm travelling or leaving home for a while. But I don't use them. So, I kept them in my medicine bag.🤣 While going for my youth service, she bought so many drugs for me ranging from blood tonics, antibiotics, malaria drugs, to pain killers, among others. Every time I came home during service year, she packed drugs for me again. Alas after service year,  I came home with a bag full of drugs and she was amazed. She kept asking me why I didn't use the drugs and I kept giving excuses. Whenever anyone was in need of medicine in the house or even a stranger, she would always give them from my medicine bag. I soon discovered that my medicine bag was empty. So, I challenged her for giving away my drugs. She replied by saying beca
